A Crown, Initials, and Monsters

Happy Tuesday!

Finally getting some May sunshine here at the Castle. Some Black Eyed Susans have started to bloom, and volunteer tomatoes have decided to grow in the raised beds. Not having a good time getting my Italian Eggplant seeds to germinate, but I bought a new seed packet so hopefully those will have better germination.

The last time I shared a WIP update, the crown wasn’t finished. This time, I finished the crown, and made much more progress on the shield and that bottommost band: 

Do you see that backstitch near the Unicorn’s hoof? It was such a joy to stitch! I used one strand of floss instead of two. After pondering this for a bit, I’ve decided not to stitch my initials and the year on the shield. Maybe I’ll do some tiny backstitch at the very bottom when I’ve completed it, but I’m not feeling it for seeing my initials in the middle of the finished project. It’s not that I hate the way the initials would look (they're lovely!) it’s just my personal preference on this.

It's been very busy here at the Castle, so I haven't made too much progress this month on this WIP. However, I'll be setting aside more stitching time starting this week, so stay tuned for more substantial WIP updates!

It wouldn’t take much to make me think of books I love, but doesn’t a day that makes you stay inside just make you want to read? A few years ago, I read the Phantom of the Opera. While I had seen the Emmy Rossum movie adaptation, I had never read the book, so I didn’t know what to expect going into it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was fantastic, and a real page-turner! While I do have that book as a paper-back, I’m really enjoying reading with my Kindle. I can stay up late (as late as I can before I fall asleep face first into my pillow) and hear the owls hooting or the traffic driving past my window in the distance. If the weather stays as dark and gloomy as the weatherman says it will, then I foresee reading to the sound of thunder and rain as well. What’s not to like about that? It would be absolutely unacceptable if I mentioned the Phantom ...

Jane Austen Cross Stitch Patterns

In honor of this wonderful day, I will not only be watching Pride and Prejudice later (the 1995 BBC one) I’m also sharing a list of the Jane Austen, and Austen-ish cross stitch patterns that I’ve made. Clouds, Feuds, and eBooks
