Wednesday Update: EmnEllie Bookmarks Edition

September, Koalas, and Peach Rings   Welcome back, my cross stitch friends! August just came and went, didn't it? Summer is wrapping up, and I'm looking forward to Fall! Hot beverages, orange and red leaves, Halloween and Thanksgiving, cooler weather; what's not to like about all of that? And of course, since we're cross stitchers, our minds turn to the mountain of seasonal projects just waiting to be stitched. Or some of us have already put away their Summer ffo's and displayed their Fall ffo's. I belong to the first group :)   While writing the above, I've been munching away on Peach Rings. I do so love this candy. Maybe I'll be adventurous next time and get a different flavor. (Not really. I always cave and buy the peach flavor. Delicious!)   EmnEllie Bookmarks   I love to read, and I love cross stitch. Let's start making some bookmarks!    First step; gather materials. For these bookmarks, I'll use a 16 count blue aida, and my cone of DMC Wh

Red, Red Rose Update #2

Happy Thursday! I've had a busy and productive week! Happy to report that I've finished the bell pull, and have started work on the next project. Progress on Red Rose Bell Pull   It was such a joy to see this pattern come to life. This is such a beautiful poem, and choosing the motifs was really fun.  Huzzah! Now shall we go for a fully finished object? Yes we shall! First off, I squared the edges of my Aida, using my Mother's incredibly sharp cutter. This was fun, and my fingers only came close to being cut a few times :) Burrowed around in some drawers and found this lovely piece of red felt, then cut the red felt to the same size as my Aida.   Does this Perle cotton look familiar? If you thought,"Didn't she use that Perle Cotton in the chart as well?" You'd be correct! I liked it so much, I decided to use it in the next step.  Once, very many Christmases ago, my Mother and I sat down and made the most adorable felt mice. That was my introduction to

Girl on a Mushroom Free Chart

This Time it's a Whimsical Chart Isn't she cute on her mushroom seat? Very fond of the Coloris floss I used! It's a quick stitch, only 80 stitches wide by 80 stitches high. You could frame it, make it into a wall hanging, make it into a cushion etc.   The fabric on the model above is 18 count Rustico Aida. Finished size on 18 count fabric is  11.28 cm x 11.28 cm (4  1/2" x 4  1/2") Link to the free PDF chart is here Happy Stitching!  Marisol

Monday Update: Red, Red Rose Edition

Happy Monday! I'm going to try something new on this blog. Instead of showing updates on my wip's and my rotation, I think I'll share more progress on the charts I'm designing for my shop. More progress pictures, and behind the scenes looks at my designing, and of course keep an eye out for free charts. Tell me what you think!       Red, Red Rose Bell Pull           My leftover Aida I've seen so many beautiful bell pull charts lately, so I thought I'd try my hand at designing one. I looked in my stash, and found that I had a funny sized piece of 18 count white aida. Aida is such a sturdy fabric. Waste is awful, never throw away your scraps of fabric, no matter how oddly shaped they are. You never know when you'll need them!   Next step; design! I chose a poem by Robert Burns, because I love the poem, and the floss color really complimented the motifs I would be using.    Robert Burns, Poet         Designing bands is pretty fun, and this time I thought I'

Weekly Cross Stitch Update #25

Animal Crackers, and Old Glory   The other day at the grocery store, I picked up a big 'ole package of animal crackers; they're absolutely delicious! No frosting or sprinkles or anything, nice and crunchy. Most of the animals are easily recognizable, like the lion, the giraffe, and the dachshund. But others are still a mystery. One appears to be a strange mixture of a dinosaur and some other creature... Progress on Contemporary Flag   So here's what it looked like the last time you saw it:   And here's what it looks like now: Nice! Perfect lighting outside for the picture too. Working from stripe to stripe is very enjoyable. Maybe the next time I pick this one up, I'll focus more on the blue part, then do a bit of that white stripe, then more blue, then white stripe etc. Next in the Rotation is...   Drum roll, drum roll, drum roll...   Great Wave off Kanagawa!   Been a while since I stitched on this one. I'm off to go and tackle a TON of that cream colored sk

Weekly Cross Stitch Update #24

A Change in My Rotation I've made up my mind, I'm going to change my rotation rules. Instead of a lottery system, I will instead just stitch on what I want for awhile. I feel wild! I will give myself one week to work on the wip, then I'll post my blog post as usual showing my progress.  Progress on Still Life with Tangerines  Here's how far I got: Oh my gosh I love that peel on the bottom. Is it just me, or does it look a bit like a shrimp?  Next in the Rotation is... Drum roll, drum roll, drum roll... Contemporary Flag!  Happy Stitching! Marisol

Weekly Cross Stitch Update #23

Another Week of Tangerines, and Thinking of a Change in my Rotation  I'm so enjoying working on Still Life with Tangerines! Because of that, I've decided to work on it for another week, it's such an appropriate summer wip. Also thinking of maybe stopping my lottery for a bit. Have to give it some thought. Progress on Still Life with Tangerines  Here's what it looks like right now: Look at that peel! The Luca S. designers are really good. The shading is incredible, it feels more like a watercolor than cross stitch. See everyone next week! Maybe I'll change my rotation rules, maybe I'll make a new start. But I'll definately drool over a Riolis kit! See you next week, and Happy Stitching! Marisol

Weekly Cross Stitch Update #22

It's so hot, I'm melting, I'm torn. It's absolutely beautiful outside; but it's also really, ridiculously hot. At the same time that I want to stand in the sunshine, I want to stand in front of an A/C. Progress on Linen & Threads Mystery Sampler Decided to give this one more time, but not sure if I've made an equal amount of progress. What do you think? Here's what it looked like the last time you saw it: And here's what it looks like now: I'm so enjoying this chart! Next in the Rotation is...  Drum roll, drum roll, drum roll... Still Life with Tangerines! This one is so pretty, looks like a watercolor! Happy Stitching! Marisol

Weekly Cross Stitch Update #21

Summer is Here I'm melting! It's so hot here. But it shall not stop me from stitching! Cross stitch (and ice cream) will power me through the summer!  Progress on Fantasy Triptych Sometimes when you work on a Wentzler, you see an ocean of confetti and think of stitching on another wip. This time around I sat down, rolled up my sleeves and tackled that confetti!  Here's what it looked like the last time you saw it: Fantasy Triptych before And here it is now:                                                                    Fantasy Triptych after  According to my blog I haven't worked on this since december. But I think that I have worked on it more recently than that, so a part of the progress pictured above might not be solely from this week.  There is so much blended floss! Very pleased with my progress :) Next in the Rotation is...  Drum roll, drum roll, drum roll... Linen & Threads Mystery Sampler! Woo hoo! See you next week! Happy Stitching, Marisol

Weekly Cross Stitch Update #20

Howdy everybody! It's Friday, we made it to the end of the week! My weekend plans include lots of stitching, reading, and murder mysteries. Recently, I've started using more e-books. I have to be careful not to overspend, it's so easy to browse a digital bookstore and buy a few books! Have to admit though, there's something charming about a hardback book. And how can you replace the smell of a new book?  Update on Leilani  Now let's dig in to the cross stitch! Last time you were here, I was pretty happy to draw Leilani again. I am pleased to report that more of her skirt has been stitched.  Here's what she looked like the last time you saw her: Leilani before  And here's what she looks like now:                                                                           Leilani after Huzzah! Dropping in to Say Hello! How are you? Enjoying your time at home? I don't leave my house very often anyway, so my routine has not been disrupted very much, I'm a bit of a homebody. Progress Update on Contemporary Flag Last week I promised a page finish. Alas, I have no page finish to report! But I've decided to be at least a bit true to my word, and have decided to keep stitching on this one for another week in the hopes of getting that page finish. So I'll see you next week! Happy Stitching! Marisol

Weekly Cross Stitch Update #15

Greetings from my Cross Stitch Citadel!  How's the social distancing going? Is anyone getting any stitching done? Sorry for not posting in awhile! I wanted to give Kanagawa an extra week, because I hadn't stitched on it much during the first week.  For the past few days the weather here has been really dark and dreary. But the temperature is cooling down too, so that's nice. This is such weird weather for the end of March.  Progress on the Great Wave off Kanagawa  I apologize for the poor lighting in these pictures, but like I said; it's a really dark day outside!  Here's what it looked like the last time you saw it: before And here's what it looks like now: after "But wait!" you're saying, "What about the page finish you were talking about in the last blog post?!" I know, I'm asking myself that question too. But at least I made some progress on the sky!  Next in the
