Monday Update: Red, Red Rose Edition

Happy Monday!

I'm going to try something new on this blog. Instead of showing updates on my wip's and my rotation, I think I'll share more progress on the charts I'm designing for my shop. More progress pictures, and behind the scenes looks at my designing, and of course keep an eye out for free charts. Tell me what you think!

My leftover Aida
I've seen so many beautiful bell pull charts lately, so I thought I'd try my hand at designing one. I looked in my stash, and found that I had a funny sized piece of 18 count white aida. Aida is such a sturdy fabric. Waste is awful, never throw away your scraps of fabric, no matter how oddly shaped they are. You never know when you'll need them!

Next step; design! I chose a poem by Robert Burns, because I love the
poem, and the floss color really complimented the motifs I would be using.

Designing bands is pretty fun, and this time I thought I'd use backstitch as well as cross stitch. Because I had some DMC 498 Perle Cotton on hand, as well as DMC 498 six stranded floss, this color won the auditions for which floss would make the show.

And here's what it looks like so far:

Satin stitch on the rose- the satin stitch is fun to make, and I'm pleased with how it turned out using Perle Cotton.

Also, Perle cotton is really nice to backstitch with.

Tune in next week for update number two! Until then,

Happy Stitching!

Gloomy Weather Reading, Phoenixes, and a Promo Code

Photo by  Alessia Cocconi  on  Unsplash It’s a very stormy, overcast kind of day at the Castle as I write this post. It wouldn’t take much to make me think of books I love, but doesn’t a day that makes you stay inside just make you want to read? A few years ago, I read the Phantom of the Opera. While I had seen the Emmy Rossum movie adaptation, I had never read the book, so I didn’t know what to expect going into it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was fantastic, and a real page-turner! While I do have that book as a paper-back, I’m really enjoying reading with my Kindle. I can stay up late (as late as I can before I fall asleep face first into my pillow) and hear the owls hooting or the traffic driving past my window in the distance. If the weather stays as dark and gloomy as the weatherman says it will, then I foresee reading to the sound of thunder and rain as well. What’s not to like about that? It would be absolutely unacceptable if I mentioned the Phantom ...

Fabric, Moving the Q-Snap, and Fall Beverages

Phone Stand Pillow In my last post, I mentioned making a phone stand pillow. My first step was deciding which fabric to use. After going on an expedition through the Castle's fabric room, I've decided on these prints: I want to make more than one phone stand. One for when I'm reading, stitching, watching TV, etc. While I probably (famous last words, haha) won't use all of these fabrics, I still have to decide who stays and who goes. More on that in my next post, so stay tuned. WIP Update Here's where I got to since last time: Medieval Menagerie by Fox and Rabbit Designs Behold! A finished phoenix! I'm very fond of this phoenix. Don't those feathers look magnificent? As an added bonus for finishing this first dazzling bird, I can move my Q-Snap, which is always a treat. It gives one such a great sense of accomplishment. As for my next steps, I'll start stitching the other phoenix and the remaining motifs in this band before I begin stitching the egg in...
