Wednesday Update: EmnEllie Bookmarks Edition

September, Koalas, and Peach Rings

Welcome back, my cross stitch friends!

August just came and went, didn't it? Summer is wrapping up, and I'm looking forward to Fall! Hot beverages, orange and red leaves, Halloween and Thanksgiving, cooler weather; what's not to like about all of that? And of course, since we're cross stitchers, our minds turn to the mountain of seasonal projects just waiting to be stitched. Or some of us have already put away their Summer ffo's and displayed their Fall ffo's. I belong to the first group :)

While writing the above, I've been munching away on Peach Rings. I do so love this candy. Maybe I'll be adventurous next time and get a different flavor. (Not really. I always cave and buy the peach flavor. Delicious!)

EmnEllie Bookmarks

I love to read, and I love cross stitch. Let's start making some bookmarks!

First step; gather materials. For these bookmarks, I'll use a 16 count blue aida,
and my cone of DMC White floss.

Instead of making new designs, I'll look at some of the bands I've already designed, and see if any of those would look good as bookmarks. Three's a nice number.

So far so good!

After settling on a size, cutting out the fabric, and putting the fabric in a Q Snap, it's time to get stitching!

These are stitching up so fast. In fact, I was going so fast that, sadly, my needle broke. The eye was sort of bent. So I took out the new pack of needles that arrived from 1 2 3 Stitch, and kept charging away.

My Mother prefers the smaller, petite DMC needles, but I prefer the Bohin size 28.  Really like them, they're super sturdy, very well made and last for a good long while.Has Bohin changed their packaging on the needles? Looks wonderful, but a bit different from the last pack I bought.

And that's all! Hope everyone has a lovely start to September, with lots of stitching, and lots of Fall decorating.

Happy Stitching!

Marisol

Gloomy Weather Reading, Phoenixes, and a Promo Code

Photo by  Alessia Cocconi  on  Unsplash It’s a very stormy, overcast kind of day at the Castle as I write this post. It wouldn’t take much to make me think of books I love, but doesn’t a day that makes you stay inside just make you want to read? A few years ago, I read the Phantom of the Opera. While I had seen the Emmy Rossum movie adaptation, I had never read the book, so I didn’t know what to expect going into it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was fantastic, and a real page-turner! While I do have that book as a paper-back, I’m really enjoying reading with my Kindle. I can stay up late (as late as I can before I fall asleep face first into my pillow) and hear the owls hooting or the traffic driving past my window in the distance. If the weather stays as dark and gloomy as the weatherman says it will, then I foresee reading to the sound of thunder and rain as well. What’s not to like about that? It would be absolutely unacceptable if I mentioned the Phantom ...
