Cross Stitch Moon, the Bigger Picture, and Caramel

Everything is Caramel

The seasons aren't the only changes here at the Castle. Another thing that's changing is my coffee flavors.  I know it's pumpkin spice season for many (psssttt... if you need a free pumpkin spice cross stitch chart, click here). But it's not really a flavor that I like. Instead, if I could make everything into caramel that would be wonderful. My go-to homemade coffee lately has been a hot cup of instant coffee from Germany, with powdered creamer, no sugar, and an amazing new-to-me salted caramel cold foam. If you're like I was a few weeks ago, and have no idea what cold foam is, here's a great article by the website Fluent in Coffee that describes what it is. The article includes a few recipes, but my grocery store sells a bunch of different flavors in spray cans, of which you guessed it, salted caramel is my absolute favorite. I like using the cold foam on my hot coffee and my iced coffee. Besides being delicious it's quite pretty too.

WIP Update

Here's where I got to on Medieval Menagerie. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish this band before October, but I'm pleased as punch with it anyway.

I also took a zoomed-out picture of Medieval Menagerie once I took it out of the Q-Snap. Shall we look at the bigger picture?

Looking good! I always feel a bit regretful putting this one away. It's such a fun stitch, and when else will I be stitching on unicorns, lions, and a phoenix egg? Now that Menagerie is tucked away in its project bag for a while let's take a peek at the next project I'll be working on. Behold:

Trick-Or-Treat Moon

It's just right for Spooky Season. Those colors are so very perfect. I really should finish that cat at the bottom, but I also want to stitch some more of the candy.

Happy stitching, and see you next time!

Gloomy Weather Reading, Phoenixes, and a Promo Code

Photo by  Alessia Cocconi  on  Unsplash It’s a very stormy, overcast kind of day at the Castle as I write this post. It wouldn’t take much to make me think of books I love, but doesn’t a day that makes you stay inside just make you want to read? A few years ago, I read the Phantom of the Opera. While I had seen the Emmy Rossum movie adaptation, I had never read the book, so I didn’t know what to expect going into it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was fantastic, and a real page-turner! While I do have that book as a paper-back, I’m really enjoying reading with my Kindle. I can stay up late (as late as I can before I fall asleep face first into my pillow) and hear the owls hooting or the traffic driving past my window in the distance. If the weather stays as dark and gloomy as the weatherman says it will, then I foresee reading to the sound of thunder and rain as well. What’s not to like about that? It would be absolutely unacceptable if I mentioned the Phantom ...

Fabric, Moving the Q-Snap, and Fall Beverages

Phone Stand Pillow In my last post, I mentioned making a phone stand pillow. My first step was deciding which fabric to use. After going on an expedition through the Castle's fabric room, I've decided on these prints: I want to make more than one phone stand. One for when I'm reading, stitching, watching TV, etc. While I probably (famous last words, haha) won't use all of these fabrics, I still have to decide who stays and who goes. More on that in my next post, so stay tuned. WIP Update Here's where I got to since last time: Medieval Menagerie by Fox and Rabbit Designs Behold! A finished phoenix! I'm very fond of this phoenix. Don't those feathers look magnificent? As an added bonus for finishing this first dazzling bird, I can move my Q-Snap, which is always a treat. It gives one such a great sense of accomplishment. As for my next steps, I'll start stitching the other phoenix and the remaining motifs in this band before I begin stitching the egg in...
