Friday Update: Halloween Moon Edition

Halloween Stitching Time!  For the most part, Cross Stitch people fall into two camps: seasonal stitchers, and non-seasonal stitchers. After pondering this question for a bit, I've decided that I'm firmly in the seasonal stitcher camp.  Bearing that in mind, you can imagine how excited I am about my Halloween wip 👻🎃 It's been awhile since you've seen this one, so allow me to re-introduce you to Trick or Treat Moon   Stunning. Found it in this magazine, Cross Stitch & Needlework, October 1996: This issue has an absolute ton of amazing Halloween and Fall charts. If Halloween stitching is something you like, then this magazine is a must have.  I think I started this one two years ago. Maybe last year... Anyway, here's my progress so far: That checkerboard border is so much fun. It stitches up really fast. Zooming in on that purple blob on the right: Yes, that is a cat. It may not look like much now, but just you wai...

We've Got a Finish!

Hurray! It's been at least three years since I bought this chart, maybe even a bit longer. I saw it on the shelf of my LNS and thought it was the most beautiful cross stitch pumpkin I'd ever seen.  I still think so too :) Recently I've been in a finishing frenzy kind of mood. After having lost my stitchy bug for a bit, I can't tell you how good it feels to be back in the saddle. First I got a finish on the Tangerines, now this. Here it is, J is for Jack-O-Lantern by The Prairie Schooler: Those yellow flowers are stunning! And that cat looks like it's been freaked out. My, what a happy looking pumpkin in the bottom right. More photos: My goal was to finish it by the end of September, but I went just a little bit passed that since I finished it up this morning. But that's close enough and good enough for me!  Next step, on to the Halloween Moon! Happy Stitching! Marisol

Friday Update: Jack-O-Lantern Edition

Here I am! Well, I did it. As promised, here is my blog post for this week.  Progress has been made on J is for Jack-O-Lantern, but if I want a finish before the end of September (a tentative goal of mine) I'll need to spend a bit more time stitching everyday.  This is such a fun project. As you can tell from the leaf in the upper right hand corner, my strategy is to stitch the outline of the leaves first, then fill in with the lighter green.  See those yellow flowers? When I saw the called for floss I thought, "No way, that's going to look weird." But after stitching the flower at the bottom right, I was very pleased. Isn't it just super pretty?  After I finish this one, I'll still have Halloween coming up (pinning a lot on my September deadline!) so naturally I'll be picking up Halloween Moon again. The floss on that chart is so vivid, I'm sure you can see it from space.  What I've Been Watching I love history, especially pre King Jam...

Friday Update and a Challenge

Wip Update  Hello there my friends! The other morning, I stepped outside my back door and was pleasantly surprised; there was a crisp coolness in the air that I haven't felt since Spring. I think that Fall has finally arrived! The Fall's crisp, cool weather is one of the things that keeps me going through the awful (and sticky, hot, unbearable etc.) August weather.  Some people aren't, but I think that I'm a seasonal stitcher (as in, I stitch Christmas wips during Christmas, Summer themed wips during the Summer. You get the idea.) Bearing that in mind, I've gotten a ton of stitching done on J is for Jack O Lantern by Prairie Schooler.  Behold: Ignore the cat with the missing ear. All in good time :)  Look at that leaf. Stunning! It's taken a bit to get used to stitching on linen again. Seasonally appropriate needle minder, courtesy of my Mother's seemingly endless button tin. Keep an eye out for unusual buttons, they can be made into ...

A Finish

Drum roll! 🥁 I've got a finish! I present to you, Still Life with Tangerines by Luca S Isn't it a beauty? This one is definitely getting framed soon. Such an enjoyable project. It looks tricky, but it was pretty simple to follow the chart. The symbols weren't too similar looking (which can be a pain) the Aida was a nice size, small but not too small. Think it's 18 count. The half stitches went by pretty quickly, and I am very pleased with how the shading turned out.  Feels great to have a finish! Happy stitching! Marisol

Nearly Finished!

So close to a finish I can taste it! Just have a tiny bit of a page left, another leaf or so and; done! Here's where I'm at right now: Who needs food and sleep right? I should just spend all 24 hours of my day stitching until I cross the finish line 😂 Feeling Fall in the air (at least I will be soon) I also had the irresistable temptation to pick up one of my Fall wip's. I decided to pick up J is for Jack-O-Lantern by Prairie Schooler. Made some nice progress on that lovely pumpkin. Here's what it looks like now: Pretty nice, right? Love that shape. Also, the fabric that my Q-Snap is resting on is a project bag that my Mother made for me. You can never go wrong with polka dots.  Happy Stitching!  Marisol

August Oranges

I can't believe that it's already August. Time is just flying by this year! Pleased to report that I have a page finish 🥳  Which makes this current page I'm working on the last page of the chart.  Here's what the Tangerines look like right now: Moving between the dark and creamy orange colored floss is so great.  My plans are, that after I finish this wip, I'll move on to one of my Fall themed wip's. That way I'll have something seasonal done by the time I (hopefully) get another finish.  Happy Stitching! Marisol
