Friday Update: Jack-O-Lantern Edition

Here I am!

Well, I did it. As promised, here is my blog post for this week.

Progress has been made on J is for Jack-O-Lantern, but if I want a finish before the end of September (a tentative goal of mine) I'll need to spend a bit more time stitching everyday.

This is such a fun project. As you can tell from the leaf in the upper right hand corner, my strategy is to stitch the outline of the leaves first, then fill in with the lighter green.

See those yellow flowers? When I saw the called for floss I thought, "No way, that's going to look weird." But after stitching the flower at the bottom right, I was very pleased. Isn't it just super pretty?

After I finish this one, I'll still have Halloween coming up (pinning a lot on my September deadline!) so naturally I'll be picking up Halloween Moon again. The floss on that chart is so vivid, I'm sure you can see it from space.

What I've Been Watching

I love history, especially pre King James, English history. This documentary was recommended to me by a fellow history buff. It's called, "The Boleyns, a Scandalous Family." I'd insert a link, but Blogger is pretty cranky right now and doesn't want me to add one. I watched it on YouTube and you can just copy paste this into your search bar:

The Boleyn historians were very pleased with the historical accuracy and the vivid portrayal of the lavish Tudor period. Costumes, actors, historians, everybody was amazing. Give it a try and see if you like it.

Happy Stitching!

Gloomy Weather Reading, Phoenixes, and a Promo Code

Photo by  Alessia Cocconi  on  Unsplash It’s a very stormy, overcast kind of day at the Castle as I write this post. It wouldn’t take much to make me think of books I love, but doesn’t a day that makes you stay inside just make you want to read? A few years ago, I read the Phantom of the Opera. While I had seen the Emmy Rossum movie adaptation, I had never read the book, so I didn’t know what to expect going into it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was fantastic, and a real page-turner! While I do have that book as a paper-back, I’m really enjoying reading with my Kindle. I can stay up late (as late as I can before I fall asleep face first into my pillow) and hear the owls hooting or the traffic driving past my window in the distance. If the weather stays as dark and gloomy as the weatherman says it will, then I foresee reading to the sound of thunder and rain as well. What’s not to like about that? It would be absolutely unacceptable if I mentioned the Phantom ...

Mini Tudor Sampler

New Chart! Mini Tudor Sampler by EmnEllie Tudor inspired motifs, such as a crown and a Tudor rose, adorn this traditional cross stitch sampler. Bands and an alphabet surround the motifs of this traditional English inspired sampler. In the pictured model above, I added initials. These initials will not be shown in the chart that is sent to you, that area will be left blank so that you can insert your own initials using the alphabet from the sampler if you wish. Stitch count is 80 wide by 80 high. The fabric used was 18 count Vintage Country Mocha Aida. One color was used throughout, DMC 115 Variegated Garnet. Finished size on 18 count Aida is approximately 4-1/2 inches (11.3cm) wide by 4-1/2 inches (11.3cm) high. This listing is for a digital download cross stitch chart of the pictured cross stitch above. Nothing will be physically sent to you. More info on the digital download process here: https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/115013328108-Downloading-a-Digital-Item The link to the ...
