Canva, Cross Stitch, and Synthwave Oh My!

I like creating things. Ever since I was a little girl, I've tried my hand at different crafts; watercolor, finger-painting (messy), Lego's, even making hand puppets. Cross Stitch has stuck with me the longest, but once in a while I like to branch out into something completely different. The other day I was seized by a creative brainstorm, and signed up for an account on Canva. (Nope, not a promoted post! I just like sharing new sites and tools!)

I was promised a fun site, infinite tools for designing and creating beautiful graphic art- and they delivered! Here is the fruit of my brief but productive sojourn in Canva-land.

Isn't that just pretty? Here is a picture of one of my first creations:

Simple, but I'm fond of it! In case you want a copy, here is a link to my Etsy shop.

On the Cross Stitch frontier, things are going very well with my new Irish sampler. My progress so far:

Loved stitching that band on the right.

And I'm just chugging away with Russian Hunting. I've made so much progress on Russian Hunting, I don't want to put it down! Think I'll keep stitching on this one for awhile. Progress:

Maybe you wouldn't think so at first, but stitching the sky and the trees are really enjoyable.

And last but certainly not least, some music for your stitching time:

Enjoy, and happy stitching!

Gloomy Weather Reading, Phoenixes, and a Promo Code

Photo by  Alessia Cocconi  on  Unsplash It’s a very stormy, overcast kind of day at the Castle as I write this post. It wouldn’t take much to make me think of books I love, but doesn’t a day that makes you stay inside just make you want to read? A few years ago, I read the Phantom of the Opera. While I had seen the Emmy Rossum movie adaptation, I had never read the book, so I didn’t know what to expect going into it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was fantastic, and a real page-turner! While I do have that book as a paper-back, I’m really enjoying reading with my Kindle. I can stay up late (as late as I can before I fall asleep face first into my pillow) and hear the owls hooting or the traffic driving past my window in the distance. If the weather stays as dark and gloomy as the weatherman says it will, then I foresee reading to the sound of thunder and rain as well. What’s not to like about that? It would be absolutely unacceptable if I mentioned the Phantom ...

Fabric, Moving the Q-Snap, and Fall Beverages

Phone Stand Pillow In my last post, I mentioned making a phone stand pillow. My first step was deciding which fabric to use. After going on an expedition through the Castle's fabric room, I've decided on these prints: I want to make more than one phone stand. One for when I'm reading, stitching, watching TV, etc. While I probably (famous last words, haha) won't use all of these fabrics, I still have to decide who stays and who goes. More on that in my next post, so stay tuned. WIP Update Here's where I got to since last time: Medieval Menagerie by Fox and Rabbit Designs Behold! A finished phoenix! I'm very fond of this phoenix. Don't those feathers look magnificent? As an added bonus for finishing this first dazzling bird, I can move my Q-Snap, which is always a treat. It gives one such a great sense of accomplishment. As for my next steps, I'll start stitching the other phoenix and the remaining motifs in this band before I begin stitching the egg in...
