A Cozy Evening, Hazelnuts, and Cat Personalities

A Cozy Evening

Dear reader, let me walk you through my idea of a cozy evening. It's a chilly night, and it's raining outside. Not a torrential downpour, but soft, steady rain. You're in your favorite stitchy spot, and your cross stitch is ready to go nearby. All the lights in the room are off, except for the light from your crafting lamp and the fairy lights that you have strung up. You have your favorite snack, for when you feel snackish (remember to wash your hands before you touch your stitching!), and a movie that you love playing on the TV. It's a movie you've seen before, like an old friend who's come to visit you. You're re-watching a movie because science says that this is good for you, but also because it's almost impossible to watch something new while stitching. There's a risk of looking like this:

After you take a sip of your beverage of choice, you put in that first stitch of the evening. You're finally getting to use that beautiful floss color you were so excited about when you started this WIP, and you smile at the screen as your favorite scene from the movie is about to come up.

Doesn't that sound cozy?

WIP Update

In my last update (which you can read here), I was using about three shades of green in that lower-left-hand corner. As you can see, I've marched my way along this page:

Merchant Mermaid by Mirabilia

So glad that the paler shades of green and the white floss are back! There's that beautiful aqua floss in my future, too. I think that I can stitch one more 10 x 10 row below the one I'm currently working on before I have to move the Q-Snap. Ideally, I will move the Q-Snap before September 1st. I've set September 1st as my deadline for working on this mermaid before I put her away for a short break and start stitching on Trick-or-Treat Moon again.

Here's what I said last year, when I put Trick-or-Treat Moon back into her project bag:

"I would love to see this displayed for Halloween. Considering how long it's taken me, I think I'm on course to finish it when I'm in my seventies. Since that's the case, maybe I should start working on this at the beginning of September next year, and make a brave push for a finish! What's truly scary about this chart is all of the backstitch..."

While I do hope that I'll still be stitching in my seventies, I really would like to have finished this WIP well before then. And that's why she's going to enter the Q-Snap in September instead of October.

But hey! September is still a while away, and Aurora the mermaid is enjoying her time in the sun this summer. She'll be right back in my cross stitch stand in November as well, so she'll only be taking a short vacation.

Odds & Ends

  1. Granola has become one of my favorite breakfasts recently. My current box is hazelnut with "semisweet chocolate pieces." Of course, the chocolate is for my heart health.
  2. In my experience, orange cats are either very sweet or very grumpy. Also, "Tortitude" is such an amazing word. Personality Test for Cats
  3. Seen on Pinterest! I need this on my bookshelf

Happy stitching!

Gloomy Weather Reading, Phoenixes, and a Promo Code

Photo by  Alessia Cocconi  on  Unsplash It’s a very stormy, overcast kind of day at the Castle as I write this post. It wouldn’t take much to make me think of books I love, but doesn’t a day that makes you stay inside just make you want to read? A few years ago, I read the Phantom of the Opera. While I had seen the Emmy Rossum movie adaptation, I had never read the book, so I didn’t know what to expect going into it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was fantastic, and a real page-turner! While I do have that book as a paper-back, I’m really enjoying reading with my Kindle. I can stay up late (as late as I can before I fall asleep face first into my pillow) and hear the owls hooting or the traffic driving past my window in the distance. If the weather stays as dark and gloomy as the weatherman says it will, then I foresee reading to the sound of thunder and rain as well. What’s not to like about that? It would be absolutely unacceptable if I mentioned the Phantom ...

Mini Tudor Sampler

New Chart! Mini Tudor Sampler by EmnEllie Tudor inspired motifs, such as a crown and a Tudor rose, adorn this traditional cross stitch sampler. Bands and an alphabet surround the motifs of this traditional English inspired sampler. In the pictured model above, I added initials. These initials will not be shown in the chart that is sent to you, that area will be left blank so that you can insert your own initials using the alphabet from the sampler if you wish. Stitch count is 80 wide by 80 high. The fabric used was 18 count Vintage Country Mocha Aida. One color was used throughout, DMC 115 Variegated Garnet. Finished size on 18 count Aida is approximately 4-1/2 inches (11.3cm) wide by 4-1/2 inches (11.3cm) high. This listing is for a digital download cross stitch chart of the pictured cross stitch above. Nothing will be physically sent to you. More info on the digital download process here: https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/115013328108-Downloading-a-Digital-Item The link to the ...
