A Finish, Nikolai Returns, and Waffles

Happy Wednesday

Thanksgiving was wonderful. It's such a happy holiday, and it lasts in my heart all year round. On the more practical and less romantic side (but still very delicious) Thanksgiving also lasts until all of the leftovers are finished. That means that I finished Thanksgiving yesterday.

Next step, adorn the Castle with Christmas and Advent decorations!

Why am I posting an artistic representation of waffles from the 17th century? We'll cover that in Odds & Ends. In the meantime, let's proceed to the cross stitch.

Remember my optimism from a few posts ago, where I boldly declared that Turkey Bay would be finished before Thanksgiving? That proved to be a bit... overconfident. However, someone helpfully pointed out that there is a Thanksgiving weekend, so technically Turkey Bay could still be in my rotation. (Yes, I am a seasonal stitcher). Happily, I can report that I have a finish! Behold!

Turkey Bay

Isn't it pretty?!?! Those Turkeys are so fat and happy. The Pilgrim looks like he's saying, "Ahoy! The dinner table!" I really love the whimsical flowers and other motifs. The waves were so enjoyable to stitch. Maybe it's because they're one of my favorite shades of blue.

It's such a great feeling to finish this one, since it's been in my rotation for a few years now. Mission accomplished!

Winter means one thing to longtime readers. It's time for Nikolai to make a reappearance. If you haven't met him yet, allow me to introduce you. His full name is Russian Hunting by Riolis.

Russian Hunting

That's what he looks like when he's done, and here's where I stopped in the Spring:

Nikolai so far

Really looking forward to stitching in 10 x 10 blocks again. And doesn't that color pallet scream winter?

If you want to be a seasonal stitcher too I've designed some Christmas charts. They're instant downloads, so no need to wait for me to ship them to you!

First up is Irish Christmas:

Irish Christmas by EmnEllie

Link to the chart is here.

Next is Christmas Cross Stitch (really original name, right?)

I'm giving away 3 copies of this PDF Chart away for free. It's first come first served, and only while supplies last! Link to the chart is here.

Odds & Ends

  1. Just before Thanksgiving, I went to 123 Stitch's website and was greeted by this beautiful banner. Festive!

  2. There's no use me denying it- I'm insane about the Lord of the Rings. Combine Cross Stitch with Lord of the Rings, and that makes it very difficult for me not to buy charts like this one. Start the clock, let's see how long I can resist this one

  3. That looks so very very tasty
Happy stitching!

Gloomy Weather Reading, Phoenixes, and a Promo Code

Photo by  Alessia Cocconi  on  Unsplash It’s a very stormy, overcast kind of day at the Castle as I write this post. It wouldn’t take much to make me think of books I love, but doesn’t a day that makes you stay inside just make you want to read? A few years ago, I read the Phantom of the Opera. While I had seen the Emmy Rossum movie adaptation, I had never read the book, so I didn’t know what to expect going into it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was fantastic, and a real page-turner! While I do have that book as a paper-back, I’m really enjoying reading with my Kindle. I can stay up late (as late as I can before I fall asleep face first into my pillow) and hear the owls hooting or the traffic driving past my window in the distance. If the weather stays as dark and gloomy as the weatherman says it will, then I foresee reading to the sound of thunder and rain as well. What’s not to like about that? It would be absolutely unacceptable if I mentioned the Phantom ...

Jane Austen Cross Stitch Patterns

Photo by Elaine Howlin on Unsplash Happy Pride and Prejudice Day! In honor of this wonderful day, I will not only be watching Pride and Prejudice later (the 1995 BBC one) I’m also sharing a list of the Jane Austen, and Austen-ish cross stitch patterns that I’ve made. By the end of this post, you’ll have Mr. Bingley wondering at all the accomplishments cross stitchers have these days ;) Regency Silhouettes: There are two charts here, and I like to think that they’re Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. I wanted them to look like the silhouettes that you see on the walls in period dramas.  Available as a freebie, here’s the link. This is a great chart for all bookworms, with motifs inspired by Victorian wallpaper and the covers of vintage books. Caroline Bingley would be stitching this for her library, because we know that she can’t survive without good literature.  Available in my Etsy shop, link is here. I like to imagine Jane Austen staying up late, reading a new book, or adding s...
